Small excerpt is a bit confusing...hoping the book gets better and easier to follow!

I'm a bit conflicted. I was quite excited to read the first read of this one as I love stories with an emphasis on family bonds and the front cover is beautiful! However, I found the writing style to be a bit confusing and underwhelming, after the hype of the blurb. The situations seemed ambiguous and it was hard to follow characters. I hope that the book, in its entirety, is better, but the first two chapters I read were, unfortunately, not as good as I was hoping for.
