The shift from first person POV to third person from chapters 1-2 threw me off initially, but Joan He's writing is so amazing I got over that pretty quickly. The worldbuilding is seamless, and her mastery with words is enviable. I mean, having "Kasey Mizuhara marooned at her own kitchen island" when we just saw her sister literally marooned on a deserted island? Brilliant. Two chapters in, and I am already 100% invested in this mystery!
