This is a difficult read, as it's based on a true story of nine women who survived a WWII concentration camp in Germany. It's heartbreaking to read about the unimaginable horrors and conditions they (and far too many others) experienced, but their will to survive is inspiring. What is even more amazing is that one of the women is related to the author. At its core, this book is about friendship, strength, and survival.

This book is well researched, and it includes numerous photos and interviews. I've read numerous books pertaining to WWII (fiction and nonfiction), and none have been quite like this one. The courage and resilience of these women is encouraging, and their stories are ones that should be heard. If you're a fan or history, this is a book to check out.
