The Newlywed's Window is a unique and diverse collection of twelve stories showcasing emerging African writers, many of whom have never been published. They comprise a wide variety of genres including horror. Every story was worthy of inclusion. The stories are powerful, well written and explore themes of family, relationships, tradition, community, societal expectations and gender roles. Many address the intersection of traditional and modern worlds. My favorites were The Daya Zimu, Old Photographs, and A Letter from Ireland, all with supernatural aspects. Our Girl Bimpe cleverly offers insight into the dangers of social media. The author bios, as well as the stories, were interesting and fun to read. I really enjoyed reading these stories and the introduction to new writers. Thank you to Mukana Press and BookishFirst.
