I really enjoyed this book. It's sort of a fill in to Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series set in ancient Egypt, and gives us the story of Hui (something of a side character in the main story), and how he ends up with Taita fighting the Hyksos invasion. Hui lives a comfortable life as the son of an Egyptian official, until he is accused of murder and condemned to death. As he flees his fate he encounters many threats including some in is own family, and the story is all about how he deals with them. He Revenge is on his mind, and his story has many twists and turns that kept me turning the pages long into the night.

The book is well researched and interesting as well as entertaining. Both the villains and the heroes are well written. It's a coming of age story in many respects, as Hui has to make many difficult decisions and faces many ethical dilemmas. Does he take his revenge on the evil sorceress? Does he break this vow or that? Does he take life or save life? Its a great story and worthy of it's place in this wonderful series.
