After finally finishing reading "The New Kingdom" the newest novel by Wilbur Smith I was not disappointed in this latest addition to his works. The main charachter Hui comes from the city of Lahun and is the favourite son of his doting father. Jealousy is the main motivator that entices his stepmother along with his brother to develop a plot to seize control from their father. They eventually seize control of the city, orchestrating the downfall of their father through an elaborate effort and condemn Hui. Hui finds himself alone and outcast. He becomes a captive of an extremely dangerous and powerful band of outlaws calling themselves the Hyskos. Hui does not give up and becomes determined to seek out revenge for the death of his father and rescue his sister, Ipwet. Swearing his allegiance to the enemies of Egypt he becomes fully trained.
