I liked the title and the idea of Perpetual Summer, but didn't feel the title really applied to this book. A family torn apart when the mother leaves is the underlying theme for why the family is literally torn apart. The children are separated and have no idea where the others are. Lulie hears of the arrest of one brother and returns home to the deep south to try to help, while finding out more about why the family ended up the way it did.

I just couldn't get into it. It seemed to drag with inconsequential info and could have been a lot shorter. Disappointing is how I felt and I just skimmed most of the book to find out how it ended, not really caring about the characters. Not being able to relate to the characters might have been the main reason I didn't care to finish.
