I started this book on a Sunday morning and spent the entire day sucked into this story about a troubled family and the tangled web of secrets, blame, and love that pulls them apart while ensuring they will never be free. Told in two timelines, what I found most compelling about the book was not the mystery surrounding the past events but the main character, Tallulah, a young girl who tries so hard to keep her family together by taking care of everyone around her. Seeing her try to function while blaming herself for everything that happens around both as a child and as an adult really hurt my heart and kept me reading so that I could make sure that she ended up ok. This was my first book by the author but I will certainly be reading her previous novels.
