I started out really, really liking this book. The writing was completely on top of it's game and the story was very compelling. But it felt like the last quarter of the book was rushed and maybe not that well thought out, or maybe there just wasn't much there to work with? So what started out with a bang for me, ended with a bit of a fizz.
But the story itself is really worth reading. Several threads of mental illness are tackled in a very straightforward way and presented with the sad ignorance of the time period of the 1970's. The author also did a great job of conveying that time period as well as the place of the very, deep south. I just wish the story would have wrapped up a bit more slowly.
