I was excited about the historical aspects of this book and though I know it's fiction and I know the colonists left Europe to escape religious persecution, it's a little heavy on the religion in the first fifty pages for me.

It would be one thing if it were just descriptions of the differences between the colonists and the King's people, but I don't need the 23rd Psalm in full on the page. I found the mentions of giving things over to the Lord and all the "I'll pray for you" a little overbearing.

Perhaps it gets better further into the book. It certainly does seem as though the author did a ton of research into this time and all the issues swirling around this time in England. This book is for someone, just not for me.
