I have always enjoyed historical novels. The era of the pilgrims and the Mayflower is one that I haven't found many novels on. Leaving your home for a place that you know nothing of in that time had to be terrifying. Then, if you left you more than likely would never return. Mary Elizabeth had these feelings when her father announced they would be leaving for the New World. Religious persecution was running rampant and to live a life they believed in they would have to leave and start new. Once on the way many problems arise. There is seasickness, storms and a sickness that takes lives. Mary Elizabeth learns along the way she is much stronger than she ever gave herself credit for. One shining light in the storm was William whom she came to love and lean on. Kimberley Woodhouse did a great job with telling the story and building her characters. Historical fans will enjoy reading this novel.
