This is a pretty good historical Christian fiction following the Mayflower voyage. The evidence of the author's research is apparent, but sometimes the details dragged the story down and felt a little overbearing. It occasionally felt like it was trying to be too much of a history textbook that it detracted from feeling immersed in the setting and characters' lives. If you like reference lists, this book has several, including a cast list of characters as well as some of the technical terminology of boating and sailing terms. This book also sets up readers to be immersed for future volumes in this series. I don't typically reference lists like these when I'm reading, as I feel it pulls me out of the story, but I think it's nice that they're available for those who might like it, and anyone else can simply enjoying the reading experience without them.
