I'm not normally interested in historical fiction, but this one caught my eye. I felt like the plot was decently quick and filled with some good intrigue to keep me going.
There were some interesting characters too. I loved that we meet Mary Elizabeth while she's climbing through the rafters! It immediately endeared her to me! I was also curious to know why they were creeping around, which made me want to read more of the story. The notion of the "outsiders" was enough to keep me turning the pages. The setting itself was interesting enough and had lots of neat details that were in line with the period that the book was set in.
Overall, I liked the opening and the first signs of conflict and intrigue. I would definitely read more of this book.
