This is just not for me.
The cover reminded me both of a romance novel and The Scarlet Letter, neither of which appeal. While I often read historical novels, this period has never interested me. The write up that says it is "for fans of all things related to history, romance, adventure, faith and family trees" lost me on multiple counts, and I wasn’t really inclined to pursue the story. However, one of the things BookishFirst gives me is the exposure to things I might not otherwise read, so I did download and read the excerpt provided. Sadly, after the extract ended, so did my interest.
I do have to say that for those who like this genre, I thought the author’s inclusion of a glossary and list of characters was a nice touch. Even though it is written in current English instead of the style of the time, there are a lot of terms that still could leave the reader puzzled. And the cast of characters list is probably helpful as there are so many to try to keep straight.
