Wonderful world building and plot twist.
Alex Michaelides keeps you on edge through the whole book. This story held my interest and I finished reading it in a couple sittings. After reading The Silent Patient (and absolutely loving it) Michael uses has become an auto-buy author for me. I didn't enjoy this one as much as his debut novel, but it was still a great story in its own right.
The world building of Cambridge made it easy to imagine. I enjoyed Marianas character for the most part, though she seemed somewhat impulsive for being a psychotherapist. The supporting characters seemed more shallow in their development but kept the story moving along.
The twist at the end will completely caught me off guard. I thought I had this story figured out with only thirty pages left to read and I was 100% wrong. The cameo of characters from The Silent Patient was a nice surprise and was tied in flawlessly.
