I did not think I would like this book at all. To my surprise I loved it. Such a good murder mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I was truly caught off guard, which is what makes the story so worth reading.

Mariana is a group therapist who herself is dealing with loss and grief of her husband. She continues to work because she likes to help others not because she has to work. She is wealthy and lives a good life. Zoe her niece calls her one night with terrible news. Her friend has been found murdered. Stabbed to death. As difficult as it is for Mariana to return to Cambridge at the same college she and her husband spent time at, she begins to involve herself in the investigation for the murderer. Someone who is quickly becoming a serial killer as bodies begin to be left.

Professor Fosca becomes prime suspect #1. Mostly because Zoe expresses her dislike for him and his secret following of girls called the maidens. they are in awe of him and appear to be willing to do anything for him including telling a few lies. Maybe even kill?

As Mariana gets more information about this Fosca she encounters several other possible suspects. But why are they all trying to help her? Better yet why are they trying to push her away, make her leave? Zoe becomes very distraught and is not handling the murders well. No one at the school is.

Postcards with quotes written in greek are being left by the killer. Each victim has gotten one shortly before their death. Mariana gets one. It changes everything, but yet nothing. Who is responsible for all the deaths? Is it the people trying to help Mariana? She cannot trust anyone anymore. her focus is on Fosca, he notices. Everyone says it is best to stay out of his zone of interest and Mariana makes herself his only interest.

I would not call this a psychological thriller but it certainly takes you on a wild ride. even at the end all the puzzle pieces fit together and I asked myself how did I not know?! Definitely a good read, I plan to read the authors debut novel as well.
