I love Alex Michaelides as an author so much and was thrilled to see him coming out with another book. I purchased this the day it was released and devoured it in one sitting. Focusing on a woman trying to solve a murder and where missing girls have been running off to, I found the end very predictable. In Alex’s other work of The Silent Patient, I also found myself devouring the book but I was shocked by the ending and it consistently had me hooked throughout. The saving pieces of The Maidens were the short chapters that made the book seem to go by faster, but I found myself reading faster to get it over with. I’ve seen in other reviews some readers have been surprised and pleased with the ending, but I personally dislike when you can see the ending coming, it ruins the experience for me. I love Alex’s writing and the way he words certain things, but this book was a no-go for me.
