A thriller with themes of Greek mythology? Count me in! I had high, high hopes for this book. I reined them in some when I began hearing of the lukewarm reception. However, I believe The Maidens is right on par with his first book, Silent Patient.

While some say it was slow, I believe the pace was pretty fast, perhaps due to the brevity of the chapters. Sure, not much happened in the sense that students weren't showing up dead every other chapter. But there were plenty of revelations, red herrings. I love that this book did an excellent job of casting just the right amount of doubt upon mostly everyone. I also enjoyed the little Easter eggs and tie ins to The Silent Patient, however at times it felt a bit forced or cheesy. I love when things connect and I appreciated the effort.

That being said, I found the ending to be a bit far-fetched and irritating. Overall, it was a solid book and I would recommend it, especially for anyone that enjoyed his first novel.
