I have been in the mood for a gripping thriller to kick off my summer reading. Unfortunately, The Maidens did not live up to the hype.
Even though I have not read The Silent Patient, I had high expectations for The Maidens because it promised a secret society at Cambridge University that is connected to recent murders. Unfortunately, the members of the secret society, The Maidens, were hardly in the book! The ending explanation seemed random because there wasn't a lot tying it to the rest of the book. This was a pretty short book and if it had been a little longer, I think it would have solved some of these problems.
However, the short chapters allowed me to have that experience of a page-turning thriller because if the next chapter is only a few pages, I'll just read one more, right?
