The Maidens was one of my most anticipated books this year and I anxiously awaited for the publication day! But oh how I had wasted my time. I first dived into this book anxious to see where it took me and for a while it did grip me! Towards the middle I felt the author added fillers that lead to a loose end and added to my confusion. Mariana and I had no connection and I felt her character was blah. She got into situations she didn’t need to be in that made her overlook a huge detail. I felt myself holding onto this story hoping something would hit me or at least make me connect . I needed a redeeming moment and it never happened. The story got worse every page I turned and my confusion kept growing. The ending wasn’t a jaw dropper and all my hopes were gone. The only part I now wonder about is the end and if it leads to his first book the Silent Patient. The only thing I loved about this book was the beautiful cover .
