"The Maidens" by Alex Michaelides is an absolute pleasure to read, only made more interesting, intriguing, and haunting by an excellent audiobook narrator. I remembered how impressed by this author, when I read his first novel "The Silent Patient". "The Maidens" follows our main character who is desperate to protect her little sister, as she is among a group of students who are being killed at their private college. The atmosphere of dark academia makes the story feel very eerie and spooky, which causes the reader to be enraptured in the story. I absolutely loved the style of flashbacks, allusions to Greek mythology, and the eventual plot reveals. The haunting deaths were only made more interesting by the final motives and reasoning. I think that Alex Michaelides has a fantastic career ahead of him, and I eagerly wait for his next bestseller.
