Mixing Greek mythology with a psychological thriller "who-dunnit," The Maidens is a fast-paced murder mystery that was nearly impossible to put down. Mariana, a Greek transplant to London via Cambridge, flies to her niece's side when a series of murders occurs. She wants to keep her niece safe, especially after her own disastrous murder episode not long ago. Attempting to get involved and help find the culprit, Mariana pretty much breaks all the laws of obstruction of justice, but it made for a fantastic tale. Mariana is sure she has the killer pegged. It has to be the creepy professor who holds special meetings with his “maidens”. I mean, who does that? But when the murders continue, Mariana isn’t so sure she has the right person. The only thing stopping this from being a five-star story was the ending. I wanted more and didn't feel like I had the closure I needed.
