The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. Mariana’s niece, Zoe, calls her from Cambridge and tells her a girl has been murdered. She was part of a cult-like group called The Maidens who are obsessed with their Greek Tragedy professor, Edward Fosca. Mariana goes to Cambridge to try and console and comfort her niece while also trying to unravel the murder.
I liked The Silent Patient, so naturally, I had to read Michaelides follow up books. I really like the cover too. I am always drawn to books about Greek myths or retellings and this book featured heavily with the Greek tragedies.
I liked this one better than his first book, The Silent Patient. It didn’t turn out how I thought it would. And I liked the nods to The Silent Patient in this one. I’m writing this review two years later and I still think about this book occasionally, if that tells you anything!
