An engaging read but a disappointing thriller

On one hand, I read this book in one sitting because I needed to know everything immediately. On the other hand, I disliked some critical elements of the plot (being intentionally vague here to avoid spoilers) and I thought it relied a little too much on the Greek mythology elements (I did enjoy that aspect, but the sheer number of references started to distract from the plot for me). Most of the characters felt unoriginal, like they were borrowed from other stories.
Overall I was not as impressed as I wanted to be, but I was entertained and I'm not mad I read this one. I definitely liked The Silent Patient more, and I would recommend that one over this one if you want to try a book by this author.

CW: child abuse (referenced multiple times), violence (throughout), harm to animals (not a major part of the book but just heads up that it's mentioned)
