This was my first encounter with the author, Alex Michaelides, and I loved his writing style. I thought the way this story was written, that there will be parts of the book that will add up to a powerful ending. However, for me, the twist felt short and I felt that if the ending was to be what it was - then the entire time spent in Cambridge building up a serial killer sub-plot with Fonseca was unnecessary and the focus should have been on the three main characters, which seemed to be rushed.

The only critique that I would offer would be that the ending left me desiring more.

I loved the atmosphere and the main character, Mariana, but like many others have received, hated the ending. It felt like the kind of ending you expect from Lifetime movies. But, for the writing style and the setting, and some characters the author created, I will give it 4 stars.
