The Maidens has a very interesting synopsis, and the first look has captured my attention. The first few chapters give just enough hints of what is to come in the book to make the reader want to continue. How did Mariana's husband die? Is it at all connected to her belief that Edward Fosca is a murderer? I now want to know the answers to these questions.

The writing style is very fluid and easy to read, as in Michaelides' first book The Silent Patient. The story already seems character driven with strong character development. The main character, Mariana, has complexity to her that creates depth in the first chapters.

I am very excited to read the rest of The Maidens!
