"Edward Fosca was a murderer."

The first line is enough to hook me, as simple as it is. I first fell in love with Alex Michaelide's writing when I read his debut, The Silent Patient. I absolutely adored it, and I have been anxiously awaiting his next novel.

The Maidens starts by focusing in on Mariana, her childhood, and her grief over the loss of her lover. Mariana is now a group therapist, and we get to see a glimpse into her life at work with group therapy and Henry, one of her more troubled patients.

Of course the sampler leaves us on a cliffhanger, ending with Mariana's friend, Zoe, calling to tell her to turn on the news and that it is extremely important.

I'm just itching to keep reading after the sampler, and I really love Michaelides writing style. I love that he incorporates psychology and therapy in his stories. Can't wait to read more!!
