This novel swept me up into the past, unable to resist reading chapter after chapter. The author goes back and forth in time between 3 characters- Eleanor (head of the women's unit in the war), Marie (one of the women deployed), and Grace who stumbles upon photographs of 12 women and slowly puts the pieces together of the women's part in the war 2 years earlier. While it was well written, there were a few times things didn't quite fit, or things were too convenient... but the author counted on the reader just going with it for the story's sake. Which of course I did, since I was highly entertained... Spoiler alert- I wasn't thrilled with where the author took it in the end but was still satisfied enough. I may have rated this book 3 1/2 stars if that were in option but because I really was captivated and read through the entire book within two days I'll stand by a solid 4 star review!
