The Lost Girls of Paris has a fascinating storyline about British women that infiltrated occupied France during World War II to send messages back home and wreck havoc that would delay German progress, but it feels like the book needs to be about twice as long as it actually is to truly do the story justice. The story is told by three women – Grace, an American who finds pictures of the women who disappeared while passing through Grand Central Station in 1946; Eleanor, who led the team from back in London and is searching for answers after the war ends; and Marie, one of the women sent into occupied France. Despite having three strong women telling the story, it isn’t overly strong on character or relationship development - characters seem to have full blown relationships develop in few days time, without ever taking the readers on that emotional journey, and there is a lot of plot that just skims the surface instead of truly building out details, which would have made it more compelling and a better book for me.
