A very beautiful story. The cover is stunning and the premise of a people who have various gifts to navigate their world is wonderful.

The author does a good job building a world that, although fantastic, is easy to visualize. This is a YA without the cringe worthy teenage love pitfalls that YA typically follows. Yes there is romance, but a sober, sure romance that perhaps is a little too grown up to be so wisely found on the first try. I didn't get a "down with the patriarchy" vibe from this book but I did get a lot of female perspectives, most of which powerful women. The old world feel is present and the domestic descriptions help in visualizing the people's lifestyle as part of the story being told. Overall, the pace was slow and the twist at the end of the book didn't have a great haha feel, just felt right.

This would have been a 5 star book for me if the writing style had been less choppy. The sentences were all so short and I struggled with the structure. Saying that, I recommend this book and I am looking forward to book 2.
