I've been a fan of George A Romero for 30 years. This is one of the best stories I believe he has ever written. My complements to Daniel Kraus for taking an incomplete novel and fleshing it out. Great job.

The story, which is 600+ pages, begins with a dead body. A body that comes back to life during a routine autopsy.

Then you get the story from multiple POVs. Sometimes you're traveling with the ME and his assistant. Then you meet Greer who escapes her home with her neighbor after her trailer gets attacked. There are several more characters that you meet in various places too. I'm not going to say too much because it would spoil the story.

My favorite character was the woman who worked on the computer doing medical filing and was one of the first to find out about the outbreak.

The best part about the book was the diversity of characters. Everyone was included no matter the race, gender or sexual orientation. I only knew what they were via character description but that became irrelevant quickly. I only cared about them and their common future of possibly dying if they couldn't escape the undead.

The zombies didn't care what anyone looked like or how they lived. They just knew that they wanted a meal. They also only saw people as one thing: human.

I believe we should all take a cue from the zombies and be just one thing to each other: human. Just be the human race.
