Wow there is a lot of emotion and heavy topics in The Latecomer. It is written well, but a bit slow pacing too. It centers around the Oppenheimer family, a wealthy New York couple Salo and Johanna. They are parents to triplets, Harrison, Lewyn, and Sally, through IVF.

It is the early years of IVF with not much information as now. The siblings grow up feeling detached from their parents. When the kids leave for college, Johanna feels she wants a fourth child.

The author beautifully writes the trauma the characters are feeling, the privilege the family has to welcome a family through IVF, the family dynamics or lack thereof, and the kids feeling entitled is a bit much.

It is a bit heavy and I did need to put the book down a few times. I did not agree with some thoughts and character views, so it made it difficult to relate and like some characters.
