The premise of The Latecomer was so interesting that I just had to read it. While I did enjoy this book, it is a slow burn. Korelitz is a beautiful writer, and if it wasn't for her writing and the premise, I am not sure I would have made it through the slow parts. The characters are well developed (even if unlikeable most of the time). Once you get halfway through, it picks up more and becomes less of a slow burn. The triplets are not very likable, and the parents are not pleasant. Once we get to Phoebe's POV, things get a little better. I am a huge fan of family sagas, and this is one of the best. There are some lessons in this story. I can't say too much without giving away the story. All I can say is that you should read it. There is humor, sadness, dysfunction, and sometimes joy. The Latecomer is a long read, and I feel it could have been shorter. For some readers, this story will feel like a chore.
