First things first, I love a good family drama. Like the more dysfunctional the better. I want an entire backstory and really want to know why these people behave like they do. Character development is a must for me in order to be a good book. As a fan of The Plot I couldn't wait to dig into this book!

The Latecomer comes with plenty of dysfunction, tragedy, and although long winded at times, we are able to really get a sense of who these people are. Or at times rather who they wish they were instead. The Oppenheimer family consists of parents, Salo and Johanna, their IVF triplets Sally, Lewyn, and Harrison, and eighteen years their junior, their final sibling...the latecomer.
The Oppenheimers are a privileged Jewish family based in New York City. I cannot say that any of the characters struck me as very likable nor was I able to relate to them personally. Even so I had to know where their story would take each of them.
This is a very well written book, my only wish is this book would've been a bit shorter. 4 solid stars.
