Thank you BookishFirst for this ARC copy of The Latecomer by Jean Hanff Korelitz! Upon first preview I was already drawn to the family drama of the Oppenheimer's and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book.

Overall, I couldn't put it down. Is this a book I'm running to recommend friends? Not necessarily. Have I not stopped thinking about everything that happened in the book? Yes. I can't stop thinking about it.

While a long book, I found each and every detail of the creation of the Oppenheimer family so important. I wouldn't edit anything out, it all comes back at some point. The characters may be distant and not open up much to each other in the realm of the book, but the details you learn about each of them as a reader keeps you turning each page.

The Latecomer is not a happy book by any means and wasn't a light read and yet each page and chapter flew by. I credit Hanff Korelitz's choice to change the style of each chapter to the voice of the character that was the subject of that chapter.

If you are a fan of Jean Hanff Korelitz, I highly recommend reading. It's exceptional writing and story telling, the twists and turns along the way keep you going, but I found my mood was down for most of the book due to subject manner and situations the characters were going through.

I hope others enjoy the book the way I did and find something about most of the Oppenheimers to love.
