Writing style for The Latecomer is not for me.
I found it interesting that this excerpt starts with chapter five, and it makes me wonder what happened in the first four chapters.
The writing style is interesting, if not a bit oversaturated with words. Not generally the type of writing I lean towards enjoying. I also felt that there was a lot of "telling" about the family versus "showing" the family, which makes things forgettable and ordinary.
The entire story felt like it was flip-flopping around, and I couldn't keep up with what was actually happening. Plus with the unnecessary extra wording laced throughout each sentence, I found myself not wanting to carry on with the story at all.
Not for me, but maybe for another reader.
