This was a story type I had never seen before and it was amazingly refreshing! The characters, setting, and plot wove a tale that was compelling to follow. Poe Blythe wants revenge, and as we look into her past, we can’t help but want it too.
Poe is a layered character, but the author lets us see directly into her mind without telling us everything at once. We root for her, but we also question her, a balance that I think brings us closer into the story in the end.
The style of the author is perfect for the story. She weaves metaphors and similes to illustrate the moment, but doesn’t hesitate to make statements in plain and simple words when it’s needed. The heightened sense of pace at the crucial moments is scripted well. The story is a great read overall and I’m crossing my fingers for a sequel. Definitely need to figure out what happens next.
