I really enjoyed The Last Voyage of Poe Blythe by Ally Condie. I delighted in the gold mining aspect of it, I thought this was an interesting take on an old trade. The world building was well done and I can't wait to see more of this new creation. However I found myself not fully engaged with the characters. Poe is every thing we want out of a main character strong and unyielding, but I wish I had more of the backstory for a lot of the side characters, I think it would have brought a lot of life to the story (I might get my wish if there's a second book which with this ending I believe there will be). I really enjoyed the ending it took me by surprise which doesn't happen too often. Overall well done Ally!
