What an interesting adventure novel with themes of grief, trust and revenge! I throughly enjoyed the Matched series so occasional references were appreciated but the tone and setting is so different. An entire world is not created but centers on the smaller area of Poe Blythe's mining ship and the Serpentine River. As an adult reader, I was pleased that the love plot was not prominent but instead the plot was about result of the loss of your love and what type of person you will become as a result of your loss. (Possible spoiler follows...) The final sentence, "Even as I carry you with me, I will have left you behind.", touched me so much and caused a flood of memories. I will never forget this book because of that line.
