This book turned out to be much different than I thought it would be. We have sisters, two years apart in ages, who have lost their mother while in junior high. The teen years can be very difficult, even on relationships with siblings. Autumn, the older, has, in the view of her family and school, has gone over the edge full on to the dark side. She bullies. She blackmails or at least threatens it. She sells pills. Ivy is in band. Ivy has friends and activities. Ivy doesn't make trouble.
If only all the problems were a result of the facts that Mom died while the girls were young and Dad basically buried himself in work. There is more, at least for Autumn. Dad remarried. The girls were delighted. They liked their step-mother. Their step-brother was another story. He was a senior in high school when Autumn was a freshman.
One weekend, Autumn doesn't come home. Ordinarily, this wasn't unusual. Autumn was a senior now. She had just about given up on school. But Ivy has a feeling that something is very wrong. She tries to get the police involved, but they blow Ivy off. In their system, Autumn is a low level drug dealer who runs with criminals. It's up to Ivy to find her sister before a deadline that Ivy doesn't even know about arrives.
Like I said, this seemingly light book is very heavy. It touches on things we would rather not think about. Read it if you dare.
