I love this book and consider it the best I've read this year. I actually paced myself reading it because I didn't want it to end. I've always loved Savannah but really never thought about the history. I doubt I ever view it the same way again, dark stories of slavery in the past and numerous homeless camps now. The old family rich and those struggling on the edge of society. The Mother is the sort that everyone remarks in the south, we don't hide our crazy relatives, we sit with them on the front porch, while Mom may not be crazy, she's plenty wily and manipulative bringing everyone into the mystery. Son is an outcast until needed and grand daughters are somewhat an afterthought with their Mothers damaged from good old Mom. Some of the most likable characters are the homeless with their dignity and sense of honor. Enjoy visiting Savannah and while there enjoying all it has to offer, delve into some of the history.
