I really liked this book. I have not read anything from Marie Lu before but this was well written and paced. It had Holly Black Modern Faerie Tales vibes in that this tiny book packs a lot of story.
This is partially based in our history, but the Kingdom of Back is its own place filled with twists and turns that have real world consequences for Nannerl and Wolfrel. Even though it is so long ago, based in a place I have never visited, Nannerl's feelings are so relatable as out MC.
The only reason I took away a star was the end. I was left with some questions about the gap in time between the last two chapters. I hope Marie will write some bonus content there.
