First, I just want to say this cover is so beautiful and the words in between are too! This is Marie Lu's first historical fiction novel and it does not disappoint. There are elements of magical realism, fantasy, and YA that will appeal to all ages. I love how the author seamlessly weaves history with magic and reality resulting in a spellbinding literary masterpiece. I may be partial because my love of Mozart and classical music stems from playing violin as a girl, but the Kingdom of Back is my favorite Marie Lu book to date. As much as I loved the best selling Legend series which was Lu's first YA Dystopian series, the Kingdom of back is a standalone novel that is awe-inspiring in its exploration of gender roles of 18th century Europe, complex family relationships, and the special bond between siblings. I was enchanted by Lu's lyrical story telling, captivated by this magical world within an all too oppressive reality, and fell in love with the characters. If music was Mozart's love language then the written word is Marie Lu's love language.

Kingdom of Back is released March 3, 2020.
