This is a difficult review for me to write. This book is beautifully written. I can tell Marie Lu put a lot of time and love into this book, but it just wasn't for me. I got this book in an Owlcrate box, so I knew I was going to read it, but I could tell from the description that it wasn't something I would usually pick up for myself.
My biggest complaint is how time progressed in the story. Months would go by in between chapters. The whole book was a span of maybe 9 or 10 years. It got confusing at times and I could never figure out how old Nanneral was because it kept changing each chapter.
I can definitely acknowledge how beautiful and meaningful the story was, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I prefer a little more action and romance in the books I read.
