I've said it before, and I'll say it again- Marie Lu is my YA queen. This story is her first foray into historical fiction and it is simply magical.

The story is told from Nannerl's (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's older sister) point of view. It begins when Nannerl is a young girl (about 8yo) and shows remarkable talent on the clavier. Nannerl's sole wish is for her music to be remembered. But when her little brother's talent is discovered, Woferl is deemed the family prodigy.

There are fantastical beautifully woven into the story. Nannerl makes a pact with a princeling from The Kingdom of Back- her music will be remembered if she helps him with some tasks. But all is not what it seems. As years go by and her little brother's reputation grows despite his various bouts with illness, Nannerl begins to fear the power of her wish.

This is a wonderful book, showing the limitations enforced upon women, even those with prodigious talent. It reads like a fairy tale about a well-known composer and his beloved sister. I absolutely loved this book! And look at that gorgeous cover!
