So I usually don't read historical fiction, but since Marie Lu is one of my fave authors, I gave this one a shot, and I'm so glad I did!
I love Nannerl; she is a strong, talented character living in a world that doesn't allow her to be brilliant because she's just a woman. The idea of sharing a piece of history that has long been overlooked because history has long ignored the role of women was such a beautiful idea, and Marie Lu executed it in her normal amazing fashion.
I loved the relationship and love between Nannerl and her brother Wolfgang, even when she was jealous of him she deeply loved him. And the fantasy part was such a great addition, really furthering the story! The lavish fantasy world was a stark contrast to the hard times the family lived through, and was a great catalyst to the books events.
