In December 2019, I actually traveled to Mozart's birth house in Salzburg, Austria. The city of Salzburg is still hardcore in love with Mozart. He is EVERYWHERE! And Mozart chocolates are the BEST be sure to get some if you visit Austria! I had an arc of this book at that time and I was just so excited to read this, so excited to be VISITING the birthplace of Mozart, walking in the house he was born in. It was amazing. It was an experience. I recommend it to anyone visiting Austria.

Fast forward 5 months and I'm finally picking up this story and I was a little disappointed with it. I love this historical aspect of it. I found that fascinating. But the "fiction" and fantasy part of this fell short for me. It was just...meh. It was ok, but it wasn't anything new or exciting to me. It was very predictable and bland....

Maybe this is a case of its not you, its me. This isn't a bad book, I enjoyed the history, but the fantasy part of this just didn't work. I loved Marie Lu's The Young Elites story but unfortunately Kingdom of Back didn't work for me.

Note, I listened to the audiobook and I'm not a huge fan of this narrator. I've listened to her before and again, shes not the worst, but she's one I try to avoid if I can. Would not recommend this as audio.
