First things first, this cover...WOW! This cover is so interesting and fun to look at! It's the first thing that drew my attention to The Kingdom of Back and piqued my interest into seeing what it's about, and after reading the synopsis I knew I had to read it! Lu does a fabulous job of taking a story that not many know about and spinning it in an entirely new and creative way. Everyone knows about Amadeus Mozart, but have you heard of Nannerl Mozart? From the beginning, Lu draws you in with a strong and loving sibling relationship between a young Amadeus and his sister, Nannerl. Both are compelling and relatable as all siblings know the struggle between competing for parental attention and nurturing your sibling bond. The story starts out in a dirty and dingy London where Nannerl dreams of playing music and creating a name for herself. However, soon you see small hints of a beautiful and magical world right next door, The Kingdom of Back. Startlingly beautiful with dangers lurking in the shadows Lu creates a world that you and Nannerl can't get enough of. This is a great historical fiction story with a fantasy spin that keeps you wanting more. I cannot wait for The Kingdom of Back to come out, and while I am "patiently" waiting for publishing day I am definitely going to be picking up some of Marie Lu's other books!
