I won a copy of The Kingdom of Back through BookishFirst, so that I could provide an early review! If I could give it 6/5 stars I would!

Nannerl Mozart is desperate to be remembered for her musical talents, but society and her father both seem determined to prevent her from reaching her full potential. As a girl, her opportunities to perform are limited, and composing her own music is strictly forbidden. Her younger brother, Wolfgang, is always the focus of the show, leaving Nannerl to accompany him from the background. As it becomes more and more clear that she will never be allowed the same fame her brother has been given so freely, Nannerl makes a wish to whoever can hear that she will be remembered. From that wish is born the Kingdom of Back, a magical world of faerie and magic which might be Nannerl’s one chance to finally claim the recognition she has worked so hard for.

You can get your copy of The Kingdom of Back on March 3rd from Putnam’s Books for Young Readers!

Marie Lu has created yet another masterpiece of young adult literature in The Kingdom of Back! The conflicts her characters face so are so real that I honestly couldn’t decide how I would’ve acted in the same situation. Nannerl’s conflicting feelings toward her brother bring to light just what it is to love someone and wish you had what they’ve been given simultaneously. Also, the ending of this book was absolutely incredible!! I won’t ruin what happens, but I couldn’t put the book down until I was finished!

My Recommendation-
If you love historical fantasy and books with lush scene descriptions, The Kingdom of Back should most definitely be on your tbr! As a musician, I was enchanted by Marie Lu’s descriptions of the musical elements of this book! If you are looking for stories about women erased from history, you absolutely need to read this book.
