Mozart is a name we all grew up knowing. We think of the brilliant male composer who played for royalty and became immortalized through his music. But did you know he had a sister?

Our story takes place in 18th century Europe. Nannerl Mozart is a brilliant childhood prodigy with dreams of one day becoming a composer, which is forbidden. Her father has made it clear she will only perform until she is of marriageable age. As time passes, her talent begins to be outshined by her younger brother Wolfgang’s musical abilities. One day a stranger comes from a far away land and offers Nannerl something her heart desires deeply, to be remembered, immortalized through her music, but at what cost?

This book has such a unique premise which is what first drew me in. Marie Lu has such a finite way of writing that I could perfectly see and comprehend the intricate world of the Kingdom Of Back. The relationship between Nannerl and Wolfgang as brother and sister was sweet but also complicated. There was jealousy, fights, but at the end loyalty to each other. The author did a wonderful job bringing this story to life. It’s not often you read historical fiction with a twist of fantasy in YA.

My only critique would be that I did want more action toward the end of the book when everything was coming to a climax, I felt that it was a bit rushed.
